The Newfoundland and Labrador Library Association supports the interests of individuals working in our province’s
library and information science community. The NLLA welcomes all librarians and library support staff, as well as anyone
in the general public who is interested in forwarding the aims and objectives of the association.
Benefits of being part of NLLA include networking opportunities, membership rates for Education Institute events, use of the NLLA listserv, the right
to vote at the Annual General Meeting, and diverse membership options.
The Partnership: NLLA is one of several provincial and territorial library associations forming The Partnership.
The Education Institute, the learning program branch of The Partnership, offers various teleconferences, webcasts, and
on-line professional development sessions on a variety of current issues. To help you maintain a competitive edge, all
NLLA members are notified of upcoming Education Institute sessions via the listserv.
Listserv: The perfect information line for communicating with NLLA members, the listserv is used to announce
upcoming professional development, meetings, workshops, promotional material, and other relevant announcements.
The listserv is the perfect way to stay in the local loop, and it will also keep you informed of upcoming Education Institute sessions
which your library may want to take part in. See the listserv guidelines for more details.
Annual Conference: Happening each spring, this is a great opportunity to learn about current issues, new services,
and research happening in libraries throughout the province. Mingle with colleagues and catch up with old friends by taking
part in the pre-conference social, conference sessions, and the always delicious banquet.
Networking: Being part of NLLA allows you to meet other individuals who share your interest, passion, and concern
for libraries and library related issues. Networking is also a terrific way to meet future employers and employees.
Get Involved: By being involved with the NLLA, you will be able to get great experience and expand your resumé at
the same time! When filling out your membership form you can choose to become involved with the following NLLA related
items: Library Week, website, bulletin, workshops, open houses, social events, library directory, planning the annual
conference, as well as briefs/studies on library affairs.
Bulletin: Published three times a year, the digital NLLA Bulletin will fill you in on local and national library
news, events, services, research, and feature articles.
Library Week: Celebrate and promote what libraries bring to our communities each day. Each year, NLLA sponsors a poetry
contest for the event, and entries pour in from across the province. This contest showcases the talent of Newfoundland and
Labrador students in grades K through 12, and explores what libraries mean to all of us!
Annual General Meeting: Occurring at the Annual Conference, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) is a time to learn about
what the NLLA Executive Committee has accomplished over the past year. At the AGM you will also have the opportunity to vote
for the upcoming NLLA Executive Committee. (Minutes of past AGMs).
Library Directory: The Directory of Libraries in Newfoundland and Labrador is complimentary with NLLA membership
(sent to all members upon update). It includes contact information for academic, public, school, and special libraries
throughout the province.
Employment: Take advantage of the job postings listed on the NLLA website and provided through the listserv.
